Built for rail work
The Dymax Rail Rider WX1B is a simple hi-rail guidance system for wheel excavators with a front blade and rear stabilizers. Blade-mounted front guide wheels and a rear railgear assembly provide dependable rail guidance while keeping the excavator fully functional for off-rail work. Optional upgrades are available to match specific railway, transit, and utility applications.
KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
- Simple Rail Guidance System — Economical solution for placing wheel excavators on rail.
- Blade-Mounted Front Guide Wheels — Front rail wheels mount directly to the excavator blade, which stays fully functional for dozing.
- Stabilizer-Side Rear Railgear — Rear rail wheels mount to the machine’s existing stabilizers using removable, non-welded adapters.
- Minimal Machine Changes — Adds rail capability without the complexity of a full hi-rail conversion.
- Simple & Familiar Controls — Easy operation designed around existing excavator functions.
- Cost-Effective Rail Access — Ideal for contractors seeking occasional or light-duty rail guidance capability.
OPTIONS
- Insulated Rail Wheels — Designed for operation in signal-sensitive railway environments.
- Hydraulic Rail Clamps — Provided additional rail holding capability and operational security.
- Enhanced Stabilizer Arms — Heavy-duty two-position stabilizer arms replace the factory stabilizers to improve leverage, ground contact, and stability on ballast shoulders and uneven right-of-way conditions.
- 3rd Rail Stabilizers — Specialized stabilization package designed for transit and electrified railway systems requiring third-rail clearance and support.
- Full Front Rail Axle with 3rd Rail Stabilizers (Option) — Replaces the OEM blade assembly with a full-width rail axle and integrated 3rd rail stabilizers for maximum stability and support during demanding on-rail operations.
- Customized Control Systems — Control configurations tailored to machine capabilities, operator preferences, and customer requirements.

FAQ
HOW DOES THE WX HI-RAIL DRIVE ON RAIL?
|
The Rail Rider WX1B uses the wheel excavator’s rubber tires for rail propulsion. This configuration is best suited for machines where the inner tires ride directly on top of the rail head. Tire selection can have a significant impact on rail performance and stability. Consult your equipment dealer for recommended tire packages, or work with DymaxRail to identify the best solution for your application. Foam-filled tire options are also available for enhanced durability and stability. |
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING A WHEEL EXCAVATOR ON RAIL?
| Wheel excavators offer fast road mobility, reduced transport requirements, and excellent visibility while maintaining the ability to perform a wide range of railway maintenance and construction tasks. |
