Positioning Railcars with Precision at Pacific Elements

Pacific Elements LLC, a leading producer of custom premix animal feed in Turlock, CA, turned to DymaxRail for a rear mounted railcar coupler to help them position cars in their terminal.

It’s the perfect dual purpose solution. Paired with an extended reach JCB TaskMaster Loader with telescopic boom, the DymaxRail coupler provides a safe way to move railcars around the facility, while retaining the ability to load materials for local customers.

Pacific Elements provides mineral, vitamin and supplement feed to clients across the Western U.S.

Blasting Through Australia’s Rugged Terrain

Throwback Thursday: In 2015, we traveled to Karratha, Australia, to introduce some updates to our Twin Ballast Tamper and Ballast Blaster Undercutters. These products were used by Rio Tinto, one of the world’s largest mining companies, and mounted on Railmax Hi-Rail Excavators. With over 40 trains moving to and from the port daily, combined with extreme summer weather, their tracks require constant maintenance.

DymaxRail’s Twin Ballast Tamper delivers powerful compaction force and is an excellent addition to undercutting operations. Seen here tamping fresh ballast.

As the operator cuts and removes the fouled materials using the DymaxRail Ballast Blaster, the other Railmax machine awaits fresh ballast before tamping.

Reza was an excellent hand and kept Scott from causing too much disruption.

Upon our return, we visited Tasmania to meet with other members of the Railmax team.

We also explored Dampier and got to watch the locals string up a chunky Tiger Shark!

Can’t believe that was almost a decade ago. It’s crazy to think how time flies when you’re having fun!

Custom Built RoadRailer 34000 GVWR Tag Trailer with Hi-Rail Gear

This solution was engineered to provide Metro North Railroad with faster track access and the ability to take the trailer on rail to and from remote worksites.

DymaxRail packaged the rear axle so it was better matched to the rail gauge to provide more even tire wear. The trailer was also equipped with integrated railgear, hydraulic power unit, special tie downs, grouser stops and air brakes. The trailer was built to fit the clearance envelope of Metro North.

If you need help moving your machinery from road to rail and on rail, then look no further. DymaxRail has many solutions to help our customers succeed.

Lee Tebbutt (DymaxRail Designer) and Carl Williams (DymaxRail Product Support) had a good time delivering this custom-built Tag trailer to Metro North Railroad. It was their first time in The Big Apple.

Tie Ejector Solution: Custom Built for Union Pacific Railroad

When the Union Pacific Railroad needed an efficient solution to help load ties into their tie cages, they turned to DymaxRail.

Previously, it would take nearly 4 days to load ties into the cages on 1 car. Our tie shooter attachment cut the time to ½ a day.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: The operator loads the railway ties into the attachment chutes using a grapple truck.

Step 2: The operator then squeezes the ties and drives to the cage to begin loading.

Step 3: Once the ties are approximately halfway into the cage, the operator activates the 3rd function lever, and a hydraulic push ram shoves the ties the rest of the way.

This custom solution, designed for a Caterpillar 966M wheel loader with a Fusion coupler, provided 8x more production than their previous methods!

Heart of Dixie: Rail Rider H-X1C Orientation in Alabama

DymaxRail was recently on location in Calera, Alabama helping our dealer, Tractor & Equipment Company, deliver a brand new Komatsu PC88-10 equipped with the patent-pending Rail Rider H hydraulic drive railgear attachment.

After a quick orientation, SDAC Rail (end customer) went to work, changing 500 railway ties on Alabama’s one and only Heart of Dixie Railroad

Orientation was led by DJ Feyh of DymaxRail (far left) along with Robert Mckee (far right) from Tractor & Equipment. In addition to the excavator and hi-rail gear, the package included a specially-designed Dymax thumb and cribbing bucket for maximizing the holding ability of multiple ties, a tie inserter attachment, and a rototilt quick coupler system with an assortment of buckets.

Left to right: Robert McKee (Tractor and Equipment – Komatsu dealer), Aaron Wasser (SDAC Rail) and DJ Feyh (far right) discuss various projects where the new machine will be placed to work.

Getting on track and learning the controls has never been easier. In fact, the Rail Rider H operates through the same controls as the standard travel pedals.

The Dymax Tie Inserter is an excellent choice for tie handling, but is ideally suited for tie insertion.

Stubborn ties? No problem! SDAC Rail’s operators simply used the Dymax cribbing bucket to stab and slide the tie from underneath the rails, making it an effortless job.

The support didn’t end that day. Our dealer and end customer both said that they appreciate how quickly they get a response from Dymax’s warranty department and how fast we solve problems.

DYMAX CONTINUES TO THRIVE LOCALLY DESPITE CATERPILLAR’S DEPARTURE

WAMEGO, Kan., June 17, 2023 — Dymax, a proud, family-owned manufacturing business, wants to assure the community that we remain dedicated to our local roots and ongoing growth, even as Caterpillar plans to leave Wamego.

Our company, led by Scott and Clark Balderson, has a long-standing history in Wamego, Kansas. While our former business, Balderson Inc., was sold to Caterpillar in 1990 and subsequently renamed Caterpillar Work Tools, we want to clarify that Dymax operates independently and is not affiliated with Caterpillar’s departure.

Since acquiring Dymax in 1997, we have focused on designing and manufacturing specialized work tool attachments for construction machinery, delivering job-matched products with unmatched quality. Our railway division further exemplifies our commitment to innovation, providing high-quality attachments, vehicles and specialty rail carts, including patent-pending hi-rail systems, to enhance the efficiency of rail transits, contractors and railroads.

We are proud of our global reach, helping various industries operate more effectively. However, our heart remains in Wamego and the surrounding region, and we are dedicated to continuing our growth and contributing to the regional economy.

We want to reassure our customers, employees and the broader community that Dymax is here to stay. Our commitment to excellence and innovation remains unwavering, and we look forward to many more years of serving and growing within this wonderful community.

Rocket Launch Supported by Dymax’s Innovative Rail Cart Chassis

When Amazon launched Project Kuiper, they probably didn’t know they were blasting off from a series of Dymax-built specialized rail carts.

DymaxRail and Redguard, two excellent Kansas companies, delivered a key solution to help move United Launch Alliance’s Atlas and Vulcan rockets to and from the launch pad. 🚀Check it out! https://youtu.be/4CScMjPE744

These specialized carts were made in various sizes to match a steel blast room fabricated by our partners at Red Guard. We built them strong enough to withstand hurricane-force winds and extreme heat.

While many customers know Dymax for our railway track maintenance and construction type jobs, we also build many carts for special applications.

“We’re able to build heavier capacities than most and offer flexibility in custom design to better meet our customers’ needs. In such cases as ULA’s applications at Cape Canaveral, we are able to reduce the height and provide 60 ton capacities,” said Scott Balderson, Dymax CEO. “That’s kind of our sweet spot, from 30 to 100 tons. There’s very few companies that can do that.”

As a leader in the rail rolling logistics industry, Dymax is pushing the boundaries of what’s possible beyond our atmosphere – and right here at home.

Lowbed Equipment Movers

DymaxRail’s Lowbed Equipment Movers can carry anything from the band to a Tadano 1200 crane and even a Cat D10 dozer if you really want to move some earth.  On a recent trip to a far off railway worksite one customer was celebrating.  They could finally move their cranes and their entire equipment fleet in a day.  It used to take them nearly a week to mobilize the equipment due to the massive machine sizes and sometimes they’d have to build roads to get the equipment into the worksite.  With 90 tons of capacity who wouldn’t want to take a ride on this Band Wagon! Crawl on and let’s go!.

DymaxRail Lowbed Equipment Movers are self propelled railway vehicles that can move on highways and railways.  They load to and from the railway crossing in 7 minutes or less and can travel up to 20 mph speeds on rail.
